20 Simple Ways to Live Ayurveda


Schedule a walk with a friend or co-worker. Ayurveda considers walking a tridoshic exercise: it balances all three doshas without putting excessive strain on your body. It calms the mind and nourishes the senses.

Create a fresh lunch. Foods that are processed, canned, frozen or packaged are harder to digest, and thus create ama, or toxins. Also, because they are old, denatured by processing, or include harmful ingredients such as chemical preservatives, they no longer contain nature's intelligence. Rather, they create ama and block nature's intelligence from reaching the cells. Just for today, make the effort to eat a fresh, warm lunch. Eat in a settled, quiet atmosphere and focus on your food when you eat.

Drink a glass of water. Water flushes out accumulated ama, and keeps the digestion smooth. Sipped throughout the day, water is an excellent healer.

Drink a glass of milk. At the end of a tiring day, when you cannot seem to close your eyes, don't be frustrated: drink a glass of warm milk. Milk should be organic and free of additives, and boiled with a pinch of cardamom before it is drunk in order to make it easier to digest. Drink it alone, away from meals, to avoid indigestion.

Sit down and close your eyes. Take a "just-for-me" break right now, right here. Disconnect from the outer world and tune in to your own self. Even if you do this for a minute, you will feel healed.

Build small changes into your daily menu. Instead of popcorn, eat fresh fruit. Don't snack on candy — eat soaked blanched almonds instead. US election 2016: Backlash to election of Donald Trump begins as protests sweep America

Protests against the election of Donald Trump as president have swept across the US, with hundreds of people gathering in New York's Union Square.

Thousands of pupils walked out of classes in California, protesters blocked roads in Oregon and set fire to rubbish bins in Seattle and Oakland.

A bitter election campaign has left a nation divided. The popular vote is split almost exactly between the two candidates.

And although both Mr Trump and Hillary Clinton have appealed for unity, many fear that the forces unleashed by the president-elect's bombastic rhetoric could have explosive results.

In New York, hundreds of people assembled in light rain as darkness fell with banners reading “Not our president” and “If he builds a wall we will tear it down”.

The protesters blocked New York's Fifth Avenue as they descended on the Trump Tower, where the president-elect was lying low.

There were reports of multiple arrests being made and a heavy police presence as units from the NYPD moved in to contain the demonstrators.

The east side of the famous street, a stone's throw from Central Park, had been closed to the public and lorries filled with dirt were lined up in front of the building's lobby to form a protective barrier.

In London anti-racist protesters gathered outside the US Embassy and there were reports of confrontations with members of a right-wing group, although Scotland Yard said no arrests were made.

SRK and Alia party at Gauri Shinde's 'Dear Zindagi' bash




After wrapping up her upcoming film, the Alia Bhatt starrer 'Dear Zindagi', in May, Gauri Shinde rallied around her cast and crew for a party on Thursday night. Alia, Shah Rukh Khan who plays her therapist in the film, cast members Kunal Kapoor, Ali Zafar, Angad Bedi, Ira Dubey and music director Amit Trivedi were in attendance.


"The party was held at a Khar restaurant where a part of the film was shot. Alia's boyfriend (played by Angad Bedi) is the owner of the place in the film. Some dramatic sequences were shot there. The guests nibbled on pizzas and chicken tikkas, the drinks flowed. Pakistani actor-singer Ali Zafar was the designated entertainer of the night and belted out some hit numbers. Ira who plays Alia's bestie in the film seemed excited about her offbeat release 'M Cream', while Kunal discussed his next with Tigmanshu Dhulia," a guest informed Mirror. Alia who'd especially flown in from Amritsar, where she was filming an Independence Day event, arrived straight from the airport, looking pretty in a flowing pink dress. King Khan sauntered in post midnight and had everyone in splits with his witty remarks. The party wrapped up around 1.30 am with the revelers planning their next bash which is expected to happen soon.

When Aditya Chopra told Ranveer Singh to act like himself



Actor Ranveer Singh says that during the shoot of one of the sequences of his film 'Befikre', his director Aditya Chopra observed that he was acting like Anil Kapoor and told him to act like himself.

"Befikre shoot was going on in Paris and Adi (Chopra) sir cut a shot, came from behind the monitor and said, 'Yaar, you have started acting like Anil Kapoor. After 'Dil Dhadakne Do' there has been a deep impact of his on you. So now in the next take, you give Ranveer's shot, and not Anil's'," Ranveer said at the screening of Anil's television show '24'.

Ranveer even imitated Anil's expressions and mannerisms at the event and posed in the '24' look with Anil. "Actually he's the biggest mastikhor of all, when I see him I get into masti mood or looking at me, he comes into masti mood; it's just always a riot. How can I explain what happens after I see him? I really am in love, so infatuated by him," he added.



The duo are related as Anil's wife Sunita is Ranveer's aunt. Anil had previously said that he would want to see his daughter Sonam being paired opposite Ranveer and had even approved him as the choice for the role of his Lakhan in the remake of the film 'Ram Lakhan', a film not being made now. Ranveer added, "He is one of the reasons why I ever wanted to become an actor. He is a legend, an icon, he is one of the most talented, most handsome men to grace our silver screen and now he is going to be in everyone's homes. I am really thrilled for him and very happy for him.I am such a big fan of him that I am always excited when it's anything related to him. I really wish him and his team the very best. I share a very special bond with Anil sir and I know how much his team has worked from the heart on this awesome series '24'.

Jacqueline Fernandez: I'm an easy target because I'm single



Just after 'Housefull 3' opened in June, Jacqueline Fernandez flew off to Miami to shoot for Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK's untitled 'Bang Bang' sequel. The rumour mills were buzzing then about the Sidharth Malhotra-Alia Bhatt breakup and there were speculations in plenty about the 31-year-old actor's growing closeness with Jackie. Alia and Sid are now back together and Jackie brushes off all the gossip, saying, "Obviously people want to believe what they want to and will write what they want. I'm an easy target because I'm single. There is no point in clarifying anything."

For her, the shoot with a 'chilled out' Sid was lots of fun with parties, a visit to Disneyland with her nephew and water sports. "I wanted to get a tattoo done but then realised that it might stop me from all the water fun," says the 30-year-old actress who is looking forward to the second schedule in September.

But before that, she has two releases coming up. There's Rohit Dhawan's buddy cop thriller 'Dishoom' in which she plays an aide to Varun Dhawan and John Abraham who are on the hunt for an abducted cricketer. "My character, Ishika, is fearless and integral to the story," she informs. This will be followed by 'A Flying Jatt' with Tiger Shroff as a turbaned superhero and Jackie playing the damsel in distress.

She is not insecure that both are hero-centric films. For her, it's all about being a part of good projects. "My parameters for choosing a film are, a good role, an interesting script, and a great team to work with," she says.

Like Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, Jackie too would like to foray into Hollywood but for now is concentrating on her next English film, According to Matthew, filmed in her home country. "It's about events that happened in Sri Lanka in the '70s. It revolves around a priest and a girl who falls prey to his powers. It's my first portrayal of a real life character and will release in September in Sri Lanka, followed by a few festival rounds," she informs.

Meanwhile, the buzz is that she's been offered David Dhawan's Judwaa 2 and Sajid Nadiadwala's Kick 2. Considering that Jackie and Sajid have collaborated on five films to date, including 'Housefull', 'Housefull 2', 'Kick', 'Housefull 3' and 'Dishoom', has it become imperative for her to oblige her producer buddy every time? "I'm not obliging Nadiad, I've worked with his banner since I came into the industry and feel blessed. He isn't someone who will offer me something just for the heck of it, he's a fantastic producer," she protests.


And what kind of a rapport does she share with Salman Khan? She points out that he's someone who has always supported and encouraged her. "He's definitely a mentor, friend, and well-wisher," she says shortly. And bestie Sonam Kapoor? How come she's not a part of the girl gang in Rhea Kapoor's next production,'Veere Di Wedding'? "It's not a big deal when two actors are friends but when it's two actresses, everyone's going, `how'. Hey, we are two normal human beings and I was aware of 'Veere Di Wedding' since day one and the final cast (Kareena Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Tiku Talsania's daughter, Shikha) is spot on.

Rhea really knows what she wants and a buddy film like this is what our cinema needs. I'm really excited about it," she bubbles.

She's equally excited ed about her stint as a judge on an upcoming dance reality show in dance reality show in which she has performed on a medley of her songs. "There's a sense of responsibility because of the contestants standing in front of you. It's going to be a long journey but I am looking forward to it," she asserts.

Jacqueline owns a restaurant, Kaema Sutra, in Sri Lanka and would want to invest in one in Mumbai as well. But admits that acting requires a lot of time and energy and she doesn't want her attention to shift to anything else right now. "But a couple of years down the line, I might be ready to flirt with travel, documentaries, and even movie-making," she says enigmatically.

'Kabali' mints $2 mn from North America premieres n Kabali: Will Rajini’s film cross Rs 100 crore in first day collection?



Superstar Rajinikanth-starrer Tamil action drama 'Kabali' is off to a flyer in North America. From premiere shows alone, the film has collected $2 million from the US and Canada markets, according to distribution company CineGalaxy Inc.

"It is easily the best opening for an Indian film from premiere shows in North America. The film has collected $2 million from the premiere shows and it includes both the Tamil and Telugu versions of 'Kabali'," Sanjay Dusari, co-founder of CineGalaxy Inc, told IANS. 'Kabali' released in over 400 screens in the US and Canada. Trade analyst Trinath believes only a Rajinikanth-starrer can register such huge opening.

"No other star's film could've achieved this kind of opening. To collect $2 million from premieres is no easy feat and it was possible because of the excellent pre-release buzz and Rajinikanth's association with the project," he said. According to Trinath, the film could've easily raked in over Rs 50 crore on release day worldwide.

The film’s producer KS Thanu said that though the official collection figure was still to arrive, the film has easily collected Rs 100 crore on its opening day.

“It is god’s blessing that the film is doing so well. The collection is amazing not only in India but all over the world. Language does not seem to be a barrier as everyone is coming to see the film.

“It has created history and an all time record all over the world. The collection figure is awaited but I am assuming it has easily made Rs 100 crore on the first day,” said Thanu.

However trade analyst Trinath said that the film could’ve easily raked in over Rs 50 crore on release day worldwide.


Kabali has already been declared number one in Malaysia.

This smart shell can turn your Android smartphone into a complete laptop



NEW YORK: A US-based startup has launched a smart laptop shell that turns your Android smartphone into a complete laptop -- making it more convenient and affordable for people in developing countries like India and South Africa to carry their office in their pocket, literally.

The shell, called Superbook by Andromium, makes an Android smartphone output look very much like a desktop environment. It is essentially a "dumb terminal"-- a notebook without a processor but with a keyboard, battery, trackpad and display, TreeHugger reported on Saturday.


Andromium launched this ambitious product on Kickstarter -- a website "designed to bring creative projects to life" -- and is available at $99. Developed by Andrew Jiang and his team at Andromium, the Superbook provides a large screen, keyboard and multi-touch trackpad, more than eight hours of battery and phone-charging capabilities.


When plugged into Android smartphone , it launches an app to deliver the full laptop experience. According to Andrew, the app is essentially Android Continuum that lets you work seamlessly -- going from phone to notebook.


"With the Superbook, you can do everything you can do on a laptop - and more. With desktop -class browsing, access to office applications, games, and even programming, the opportunities are limitless," Andromium said in its project description on Kickstarter.

Numerous intrusive photos of women shared on Twitter without consent



SYDNEY: Thousands of intrusive photographs taken of women in public places like beaches have been shared to two hashtags on Twitter for years -- highlighting more abusive behaviour that needs to be banned on the microblogging site after a ban on conservative journalist Milo Yiannopoulos for his "targeted abuse online".

Yevgeniya Ivanyutenko, a Twitter user from Canada, came across the hashtags with images predominately focusing on the women's breasts and buttocks in early June.

She referred the hashtags to Twitter 's @Support account and asked her followers to do the same, the Guardian reported on Friday. However, not only did she not get any response, her attempts to formally report the accounts that had tweeted the hashtags were met with error messages. 

According to a study by social media analytics company Max Kelsen, nearly 35,000 posts and retweets have been posted to the two hashtags in the past six years but there was an explosion of activity in April this year.

Users posting and retweeting on these hashtags were found to be almost exclusively male and the majority were aged 17 and under. The majority - nearly 57% - were in the US, with 14.3% from Britain and 11.7% from Mexico.

Ivanyutenko said "a whole underground community for trading these pics" is hiding in plain sight. Some of the accounts are restricted to images taken in specific neighbourhoods or public places, such as Walmart. 

"I got a response from one of the guys posting before he blocked me... saying that what he's doing is under 'free speech'," she added.

One account makes an active appeal to its more than 112,000 followers for "creepshots" that are "good enough to tweet or post" on its external website. Earlier this week, Twitter permanently banned Yiannopoulos, the tech editor at conservative news site Breitbart who was dubbed as one of Twitter 's most offensive users.

The move came after Yiannopoulos led an online troll against Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones who vowed to leave Twitter over her treatment, prompting a major outburst on social media.

A spokesperson for the microblogging site said that after Yiannopoulos ban, the company has been in the process of reviewing its "hateful-conduct policy" to ban more types of abusive behaviour and allow more types of reporting "with the goal of reducing the burden on the person being targeted".

Review: 'Pokemon Go' is a nifty idea let down by glitches



It's a steamy summer afternoon in Washington and the National Mall is packed _ and not just with the usual protesters, tourists and schoolkids. It's been overrun by bulbasaurs, charmanders and rattatas, not to mention the smartphone-wielding hunters bent on tracking them down.

If that last sentence sounds like gibberish, you're immune to the hottest app in years. " Pokemon Go '' (Nintendo/Niantic, free, for iOS and Android) has not just swept the nation, it's taking over the world. That says a lot for the lingering affection many have for the adorable "pocket monsters'' that first came to life 20 years ago _ because the game itself is kind of a mess.

The premise is irresistible: Pokemon burst into the real world. While you walk around your neighborhood, the little guys pop up on a map on your phone. When you tap a creature, the app switches to your camera; hold up your phone and you can see the creature floating in front of whatever landmark you're actually standing in front of. Then you have to catch the critter by swiping on your phone to fling a "PokeBall'' at it.

It's a weird sensation, seeing these familiar characters suddenly inhabiting familiar spaces. (The Secret Service really needs to do something about all the zubats flying around the White House.) But that's about it: You can't really do much with a Pokemon once you catch it. Essentially, "Pokemon Go'' boils down to a worldwide scavenger hunt.

That's not a bad thing in and of itself. Anything that forces a couch-bound gamer like me to get outside and exercise is a positive. And the game's maps are dotted with "PokeStops,'' where you can not only grab Pokeballs and snacks for your creatures, but you can also learn a little about local landmarks.

Beyond the "collect-'em-all'' mechanic, you can also join teams of like-minded collectors. Then you and your teammates can try to take over "gyms'' (there's a big one at the Washington Monument) by populating them with as many of your Pokemon as you can round up. 



Fans of Nintendo's earlier video games will miss their strategic battles; you can fight other Pokemon at gyms, but the technique is far more simplistic. And if you grew up with the collectible card game _ well, "Pokemon Go'' gets the "collectible'' part right, but the head-to-head competition is absent.
